My work investigates the effect climate change has on the social and conceptual world. How will climate change, which is transforming the physical world, affect the non-material (in particular attitudes towards migration)? As such, it looks at the attitudes of host communities towards an increase, due to climate change, in environmentally induced migration. I will use questionnaires and interviews a of native populations in Great Britain, Netherlands and Spain to deconstruct how perceptions, identities and subjectivities are created. By doing so, the study will also investigate how the neoliberal system dilutes identities into digestible units that often borrow from stereotypes and misconstructions. It will try to understand how collective consciousness works and how climate change will affect material life and thus alter its contradictions.
