Abstract
Examines the work of Hayden White and the Italian reactions to it from the standpoints of hermeneutics and historiography, utilizing the concept of "linguistic turn." Historical reasoning is different from that which scholars encounter in the realms of science and technology, with their precise and "perfect" terminology, and from that which is familiar in rhetoric.
