Abstract
Considers the term "philosophy of history" as a concept expressing two differing perspectives on the interpretation of the past. Philosophy of history can correspond to history's two meanings: a philosophical study of past events or a science with a formal methodology for investigating the past. Both kinds of scholarship reflect the nature of history and are necessary for the historical profession.
