O lugar da lembrança. Reflexões sobre a teoria da memória coletiva em Paul Ricoeur // [The place of memory. Reflections on the theory of collective memory in Paul Ricoeur]

This study examines the concept of collective memory through aninvestigation of Paul Ricoeur’s interpretation of this concept in his work,Memory, History, Forgetting. In presenting a critical reading of the analogyRicoeur establishes between collective and personal memory, the author arguesthat this analogy risks excluding those dimensions of collective memory whichcannot be comprehended through such an analogical interpretation. Theattempt is then made to surmount this difficulty through an analysis ofcollective memory in relation to its symbolic and metapersonal sources.
