Abstract
El artículo rechaza la interpretación que Arthur Marwick ha hecho de la noción "metahistoria", asimilada erróneamente a metafísica, y del postmodernismo como amenaza para el estudio histórico. Por el contrario, sostiene el autor que el postmodernismo pone en cuestión la autoridad del pasado como fuente de sabiduría social o de corrección moral. Los "hechos" históricos son construidos a partir de los documentos que dan fe de que los acontecimientos sucedieron, de los comentarios realizados por las partes interesadas sobre los acontecimientos o los documentos, y por los historiadores interesados en hacer un relato verdadero de lo que realmente sucedió en el pasado y en distinguirlo de lo que sólo parece haber sucedido; por lo que "los hechos" (entendidos como entidades lingüísticas) resultan inestables, sujetos a revisión y a interpretaciones sucesivas e incluso pueden ser descartados por ilusorios. /// The article rejects the interpretation that Arthur Marwick has made of the notion of "metahistory", erroneously assimilated to metaphysics, and postmodernism as a threat for historical study. On the contrary, the author sustains that postmodernism questions the authority of the past as a source of social wisdom or moral correctness. The historical "facts" are built up from the documents which attest to the events having taken place, from the comments made by the interested parties on the events or documents, and by the historians interested in telling the true story of what really took place in the past and distinguishing this from what only seemed to have taken place; meaning that "the facts" (understood as linguistic entities) prove unstable, subject to review and to successive interpretations and could even be rejected by the illusory.
