Abstract
Spanish: Qué fabrica el historiador cuando "hace historia"? ¿En qué trabaja? Qué produce? Interrumpiendo su deambulación erudita por las salas de los archivos, se aleja un momento del estudio monumental que lo clasificará entre sus pares, y saliendo a la calle, se pregunta: De qué se trata este oficio? Me hago preguntas sobre la relación enigmática que mantengo con la sociedad presente y con la muerte, a través de actividades técnicas.
English: Fernando Betancourt Martínez analyzes the statute of the historical source as a part of the language mediation system, which helps the historian to practice his profession. He discusses in which way the source as a neutral form to access past events is a cultural production submitted to significant systems, which permit its reading and interpretation. For it, the author studies a source from the 18th century, the diary written by José Gómez, where he presents a vision of common life in Mexico under the government of the count of Revillagigedo.
