Violencia social y acontecimiento // [Violence and social event]

Abstract
The article examines the concept of "acontecimiento" (occurrence, incident, or event) in the context of 20th century history. It notes that at the beginning of the 20th century, the field of the social sciences rejected this concept as a principle of intelligibility, while the humanities embraced it in its literary, philosophical, and artistic manifestations. The article asserts that the line between these divergent views began to fade during the late 20th century to the point where the concept is being reconsidered as a fundamental principle of intelligibility beyond the contrast between structures and events. It maintains that this reconsideration arose in large part out of the study of the violent and traumatic experiences that characterize the 20th century.
