History, Today

Abstract
[...]if history and historical time oscillate between the past and the future tense, between passeism and futurism, between nostalgia and utopia, the memorial phenomenon of today relies on the politicalmedial and techno-economical need to represent the past from out of the demands of the present. The need to rethink the question about the end of history and of post-history, to assume the suspension of the meaning of history and of the 'today' arose for me in the context of my work at the research program Time, Memory and Representation-www.histcon.se-a program that under the leadership of Hans Ruin gathered 24 Swedish scholars of different humanistic disciplines and received its economic support from The Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Donation.
