Biography and/or project
My project “Multiple „Early Modernities” in 20th century Japan” aims to contribute to a reevaluation of concepts of “modernity” by interrogating the ways in which Japanese actors in various fields such as historiography, exhibitions and public discourse apprehended the characteristics, spatiality and temporality of the “Early Modern” (kinsei) and its relationship to the present.
