Maria Grever

Biography and/or project

Maria Grever is professor of Theory and Methodology of History, and director of the Centre for Historical Culture at Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands. She has been a research leader in several projects, such as Paradoxes of De-Canonization. New Forms of Cultural Transmission in History, funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO), and is currently program leader of the NWO program Heritage Education, Plurality of Narratives and Shared Historical Knowledge. She has published widely on the construction and canonization of historical knowledge; collective memory and plural identities; political culture, monarchy and gender. Her latest co-authored article is ‘Negotiating historical distance. Or, how to deal with the past as a foreign country in heritage education’, Paedagogica Historica 48 (2012) 873-887.
