Biography and/or project

I’m Senior Lecturer in History at the University of Birmingham and convenor of the History Department’s UG & PG theory modules. I’m one of the researchers on the Intercontinental Academy (University Based Institutes of Advanced Studies) 2015-16 project on conceptions of Time across the sciences, social sciences and humanities. I’m working on a historiographical study of the current turn to temporality in the humanities: ‘New Cultures of Time & Technology: the Temporal Turn and the Modern Middle East’ and a study of new conceptions of time in Britain between 1870 and 1914. More broadly, I’m interested in uses of the past and have written about the development of the sciences of early societies (e.g. Egyptology, Assyriology).
