How Paul Ricoeur formulated his ideas on who and what a human being is by examining the building blocks of history and the writings of historians fascinates me. As do the world of archives, whether it is our town’s local history archive where I volunteer, or archives I read about, such as the Old Cairo Genizah archives, or those of the Oyneg Shabbos. My day job as an academic copy editor for mostly ancient historians and archaeologists, a geologist and an ancient DNA researcher, has opened up the vast canvas of the history of humankind. However, my own primary research focus is on 20th-century history, and I’m in the process of writing some essays on Ricoeur and history with a view to publishing them in a blog and or as a collection of essays.
