Die paradigmatische Lücke (paradigmatic gap) in den heutigen Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften

Abstract
The interpretative frameworks of the avant-garde trends in the human and social sciences, trends which lead the way in disciplinary debates, have shifted markedly in recent years. This shift is prefigured by the development of global capitalism, migration, the ecological crisis, natural disasters, genocide and terrorism, and technological progress, phenomena the human and social sciences have attempted to describe and comprehend. My aim is to identify the characteristics of the emerging alternative perspectives which suggest the need for a thorough rethinking of our notions of life, human nature, the relations between the human and the nonhuman, and for breaking away from the Western tradition of anthropocentrism with its reductionist concept of matter as empty, lifeless, and lacking agency.
